We are very excited to announce that we will soon be opening in the Minneapolis/St Paul Twin Cities area! The FrogBoxES have been delivered and we should be taking orders by the end of March. This will be our second US location and we are looking forward to continuing to expand throughout North America in 2011
We believe that the Minneapolis – St Paul area is a great fit for FrogBox as it is a forward thinking region that has evidenced its dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility. In 2009, a study by Nalgene on America’s least wasteful cities awarded Minneapolis as the 7th least wasteful city in the US with residents scoring high points for recycling glass/metal/plastics on a regular basis and using re-usable containers in place of disposable food storage items (good news for FrogBox). Minneapolis was also listed as the 6th most eco-friendly city in the world, interestingly enough Canadian cities took two of the top 5 spots.
One fantastic way that Twin Cities residents have helped reduce their carbon footprint is by trading in their cars and motorcycles for bicycles. With its 120+ miles of dedicated bicycle baths/lanes Minneapolis was declared by Bicycle magazine to be the number one bike city in the US. Despite their frigid winters, a surprisingly high 4.3% of Minneapolis residents commute by bicycle. Along with the increase in cyclists Minneapolis is also becoming a safer place to ride. A study commissioned by the city of Minneapolis shows that even as the number of bike commuters have increased over the years from an estimated 3,000 in 1993 to nearing 8,000 in 2008 bicycle-motorist crashes are on the decline (10% crash rate in 1993 down to 3% in 2008).
In June of 2010 Minneapolis launched the “nice ride” program (https://www.niceridemn.org) where for $60 a year or $5 a day and the swipe of a card residents have access to 1,000 bikes, when no longer needed the bikes can be returned to any of 60 automated kiosks spread throughout the city.
FrogBox is excited to be launching in such a great region that has residents, and a government that is showing a commitment to being environmentally responsible, forward thinking, and innovative. We look forward to helping make moving in the Twin Cities area convenient, affordable, and environmentally friendly.
