FROGBOX makes moving easier with environmentally friendly alternative to cardboard boxes

When it comes to life’s most stressful and frustrating events, moving is easily at the top of the list for many people.  Selling your home; finding a new home, new schools, and a new neighborhood; and settling into a new routine can cause a huge disruption in your everyday life.

Add in the chaos of sifting through years of accumulated “stuff,” stalking local grocery and liquor stores for unused cardboard boxes, or spending a small fortune on new cardboard boxes from a traditional moving supply company that you will use only once, and it is easy to understand why moving is something people dread.

Ben Cowan, a local entrepreneur, has a new way to help make moving less stressful while also being environmentally smarter.  Twin Cities residents can now use FROGBOX, a convenient, affordable, and eco-friendly alternative to cardboard moving boxes and traditional moving supplies.

“Cardboard boxes can be hard to find and time-consuming to transport and assemble,” said Cowan, Twin CitiesFROGBOX partner.  “When you are done moving and unpacking, you still have to figure out how to get rid of the boxes at a time when we want to find ways to throw away less.  FROGBOX is one way to make moving less stressful.”

How FROGBOX works

FROGBOXES are easy to use – they are stackable, don’t need tape to construct and close, and can better handle a variety of items because they are made of a strong plastic material.  Orders can be placed online at www.frogbox.com or by phone (1-877-FROGBOX).  FROGBOX drops off the boxes at your current home or office, and picks them up at your new place when you are done unpacking.

“It was so nice to have my moving boxes delivered and then picked up when I was done,” said SarahKeiser, a recent customer from Minneapolis.  “Using FROGBOX saved me a lot of time and money.”

In addition to making moving more practical and economical, FROGBOX makes the process more environmentally responsible.  Each month more than 650,000 cardboard moving boxes are used in the Twin Cities alone, with many of them ending up in the garbage after they are used.  Cardboard makes up approximately 9% of the waste found in most urban landfills, in part because the average cardboard moving box is used only twice.  A FROGBOX can be used up to 400 times.

“Recycling cardboard moving boxes is obviously better than burning or burying them through disposal, but the best option is to not use them in the first place,” said Tim Brownell, president and chief executive officer of Eureka Recycling, a Twin Cities-based zero-waste organization.  “Durable, reusable products like FROGBOX make good environmental sense.”

Cowan wanted to bring FROGBOX to Minnesota after thinking about all the times he has either moved himself or helped others move into new homes and apartments.

“Other parts of moving now are easier,” Cowan said.  “You can use the Internet to order a new phone number, change your cable, and update your magazine subscriptions.  It just makes sense that there is finally a better way to deal with the hassle of finding and disposing of boxes.”

FROGBOX is partnering with different community groups and colleges, including Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity.  The company also donates part of its gross revenues to the Minnesota Environmental Fund, a coalition of member organizations that work to protect, conserve and restore Minnesota’s environment.

While moving may never be fun, FROGBOX helps reduce stress; saves time, energy and money; and is something good you can do for the planet.  To learn more about FROGBOX, contact Ben Cowan at ben.cowan@frogbox.com or visit www.frogbox.com.
